The Influence of Using Papuan Folktale Videos on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at Seventh Grade of SMP Negeri 11 Kabupaten Sorong 2025/2026

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of Papuan folktale videos influenced students’ vocabulary mastery and to investigate students’ perceptions toward the use of videos in vocabulary learning. This research used a pre-experimental quantitative design with one-group pre-test and post-test. The sample of this research consisted of 20 seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Kabupaten Sorong. In collecting the data, the researcher used a vocabulary test in the form of multiple-choice questions consisting of 20 items for both the pre-test and post-test, as well as interviews to obtain students’ perceptions. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS to calculate the mean score and paired sample t-test. The result of the research showed that the significance value (0.000) was lower than 0.05, which meant that H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. It indicated that there was a significant effect of using Papuan folktale videos on students’ vocabulary mastery. In addition, the students’ mean score improved from 39.5 in the pre-test to 82.5 in the post-test. The interview results also supported the findings by showing positive students’ perceptions toward the use of Papuan folktale videos in vocabulary learning. It could be concluded that the use of Papuan folktale videos was effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery.
