The Effect Of Yanto Tanjung’s Youtube Channel On TOEFL Reading Scores Study Of EFL Students At Unimuda Sorong

TOEFL Reading is an important component of English proficiency, yet many EFL students still experience difficulties in understanding academic texts and answering TOEFL Reading questions. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of using Yanto Tanjung’s YouTube Channel on students’ TOEFL Reading scores. This research employed a quantitative approach using a pre experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 21 students from the English Education Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah Sorong, selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected using a TOEFL ITP-like Reading test adapted from the Longman Introductory Course for the TOEFL Test and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the mean score increased from 36.1429 in the pre-test to 44.0952 in the post-test, indicating an improvement of approximately 22%. The paired sample t-test revealed that the significance value was less than 0.05 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between students’ scores before and after the treatment. Vocabulary in context showed the highest improvement, while implied detail and unstated detail questions showed lower improvement due to their higher cognitive demands. In addition, the CEFR analysis indicated a shift from lower proficiency levels toward intermediate levels. The findings indicate that Yanto Tanjung’s YouTube Channel significantly improved students’ TOEFL Reading performance and can be considered an effective and accessible learning medium for EFL students, although the findings were obtained within a limited treatment duration and a pre-experimental research design.
