Abstract

This quantitative research, conducted at SD Ipres 16 Sorong Regency, aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Mystery Bag Game in enhancing students’ English vocabulary. The research employed a pre-experimental design using one group pre-test and post-test. The sample consisted of 19 students, and the data were collected through vocabulary tests administered before and after the treatment. The findings showed that the students’ mean score increased from 20.21 in the pre-test to 44 in the post-test, indicating an improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery. In addition, the distribution of students’ scores shifted toward higher categories after the implementation of the Mystery Bag Game. However, the N-gain score was 0.29, which falls into the low category. Based on the decision rule, the null hypothesis (H₀) is accepted, indicating that the Mystery Bag Game has little effect in significantly enhancing students’ vocabulary. These findings suggest that although the Mystery Bag Game can improve students’ engagement and vocabulary achievement, its effectiveness is still limited when used as a single method within a short duration
